ISO 9001:2026: what changed for your plant.

The sixth edition was published on September 16, 2026 and every 2015 certificate has to transition before the window closes, expected around September 2029. Answer thirteen questions and this page reads the confirmed changes against your system: a readiness score, your timeline, where the gaps are, and the first three things to do. Nothing you enter leaves your browser unless you choose the optional AI reading at the end.

Status of the text. The change areas below were read from the published ISO 9001:2026 text and the ISO redline on publication day, September 16, 2026. Summaries are in the author's own words and clause numbers are pointers only; your licensed copy governs. The full clause-by-clause list is on Everything that changed in ISO 9001:2026.

Part 1 of 3

Your certificate.

1. Where do you stand today?
2. When does your current certificate expire?

Month and year from the certificate itself. Leave blank if you are not certified.

3. Has your certification body told you when it can audit to the 2026 edition?

Part 2 of 3

The confirmed change areas.

For each one, pick the answer that describes what an auditor could find in your system this week, not what you intend to write.

4. Quality culture

Confirmed: promoting quality culture is a listed duty of top management (5.1.1) and something people must be aware of (7.3).

5. Ethical behavior

Confirmed: ethical behavior sits beside quality culture in the leadership list (5.1.1), the awareness list (7.3) and the work-environment note (7.1.4).

6. Leadership in continual improvement

Confirmed: continual improvement moves to 10.1 and must be fed from your analysis results and management review; leadership promotes it by name (5.1.1) and gets improvement opportunities reported separately (5.3).

7. Risks and opportunities

Confirmed: 6.1 is now three sub-clauses; risks and opportunities are determined, analyzed, evaluated and actioned separately, and their actions are evaluated separately in 9.1.3 and at management review.

8. Climate change in context

Confirmed: the climate-change sentence from the 2024 amendment is in the 2026 base text (4.1), with the interested-party note (4.2).

9. Terms and definitions

Confirmed: Clause 3 now defines twenty core terms inside the standard. Where your manual defines the same terms differently, an auditor will ask which one you run.

10. Management of change

Confirmed: planning of changes (6.3) now asks how a change is communicated, how you will monitor and judge whether it worked, and how you will review the results afterwards; 5.3 adds keeping the system whole through change, and 8.5.6 records who authorized a production change.

Part 3 of 3

The machinery that will carry the transition.

11. When was the last full-cycle internal audit, every clause, every process?
12. When was the last management review with recorded decisions?
13. Does one named person own the transition, with a dated plan?
Nothing is sent anywhere. The readout computes in your browser.

Questions

ISO 9001:2026, answered short.

What changed in ISO 9001:2026?

Read from the published text on September 16, 2026: twenty core terms are now defined inside the standard (Clause 3); quality culture and ethical behavior become leadership duties and awareness items (5.1.1, 7.3); risks and opportunities are split into separate sub-clauses with separate effectiveness checks (6.1.2, 6.1.3, 9.1.3, 9.3.2); planning of changes gains communication, effectiveness and review steps (6.3); continual improvement moves from 10.3 to 10.1; Annex A is rewritten clause by clause and Annex B is removed. The ten-clause structure stays. Summaries are the author's words; verify against your licensed copy. The full list, clause by clause, is at qualityfieldguides.com/iso-9001-2026/what-changed/.

Is my ISO 9001:2015 certificate still valid?

Yes. Certificates to the 2015 edition stay valid through the transition window, expected to run about three years from publication, so until around September 2029. Your certification body confirms the exact window.

When is the ISO 9001:2026 transition deadline?

About three years after publication on September 16, 2026, so around September 2029. If your certificate expires inside the window, your recertification audit is the transition audit. Enter your expiry date above and the readout gives your own dates.

When can I be audited to ISO 9001:2026?

Not until your certification body's auditors are trained and accredited to the new edition, which is expected to take most of a year after publication. Ask your certification body for its date and book a slot early; in the 2015 transition, slots ran out from April 2018.

How do I do an ISO 9001:2026 gap analysis?

One row per 2015 sub-clause, 4.1 to 10.3: the requirement in plain words, what the 2026 edition changed, your current evidence, the gap, the action, owner and due date. The readout above scores the seven confirmed change areas in four minutes; the Gap Analysis & Transition Kit (Excel) does the full sub-clause table.

Does this page reproduce the standard?

No. Requirement summaries are the author's own words and clause numbers are pointers only. Work from your licensed copy of the standard.
